It's okay, it can get confusing with all the different designs! And with this question coming in during 2nd Anniversary I assume you're seeing about 4 different types haha. Beyond the World might seem to have a lot but all gacha currency will end in "空间碎片" (Space Shards) can be categorised into one of the four below:

 空间碎片 - Permanent PoolThis shard can only be used in the Permanent Pool. It literally looks like a glass panel. 万能空间碎片 - All BannersThis shard can be used in any pool with the exception of the LI-specific one they had during 2nd Anniversary. But since that's gone, there's no need to worry about it. This shard was introduced during 2nd Anniversary. It looks like a blue never-ending corridor.神秘空间碎片 - Event BannerThis shard will convert to the one for the closest upcoming banner to it's distribution time. That means if you received it after Chinese New Year but before Spring Equinox, the shard will convert to the Spring Equinox event shard when the banner is available. Keeping these shards unopened in a gift boxed does not affect what it will change to, so you can't hoard. Open them whenever you can if you think you'll be short on shards for the next banner. It looks like a golden doorway against a black background. [Event Name]空间碎片 -  Event BannerEach event will have its own shard. You can keep them until the banner re-run or convert them to Permanent Pool ones. The ones with matching names to the event are for banners with all 4 men, the ones that don't match the card name is usually for solo LI birthdays, the ones that match the card name are usually for Collapsed World banners. Long story short, just treat anything that doesn't fall under any of the three above as an event banner shard. These shard designs will match the event theme.

If you're ever unsure which banner each shard is for, you can find them in your Backpack. There will be an explanation for which banner it can be used in. Any shard that says "可转换" (can convert) means it's a shard from a past event.
