I swear I've answered this question before but apparently not, so thank you for asking this (although I'm late and you might have gotten an answer from Ili's response on the same thing).

All characters in every world are real people, including the LIs and side characters. They live, they breathe, they are their own person. The world they live in is in their reality. They might be NPCs to us, but they're real to themselves and the world they live in.

They system creates a character with a backstory for each player that enters the world the moment they accept a mission. Think of a word doc that has all the stories written, then someone goes in and adds another character to the world. This is how the system and players see these worlds, but to the people living in this mission world, knowledge of this person is something they already knew and maybe forgot. The system adjusts the world's common knowledge so the player's existence or disappearance makes logical sense. It's also why MC usually either dies or goes missing every time she leaves the world.

We call the world MC comes from "Reality" because that is the world MC lives in and is therefore her reality. The LIs she meets there is as real as any of the LIs she's met in other worlds. At the moment, we haven't gotten a clear explanation if these Reality counterparts are the same person as the rest, but there have been major clues that the men are experiencing some kind of synchronising. How and why, we don't know yet.

Bai Yuan has the most obvious symptoms because he sees flashes of the cruise ship. Xia Xiaoyin is having "nightmares" which we believe is memories from other worlds. We have nothing as certain as that for Gu Shiye or Yi Yu, but we do know that Yi Yu showed immediate interest in MC as a doctor because he found her familiar (from 10 years ago or from memories, I don't know. Haven't read everything to see if they've dropped that info).

But you'll see with each passing event, the men fall in love harder and faster every time. It's probably the sign of the emotions from all counterparts accumulating. Also, every time we use the Silhouette, the men of the world we're using is aware of this. So yeah, I reckon other counterparts are aware of us world-hopping that way as well.

Another thing is, the men's emotions aren't dampened by the system so they get the full emotional experience for any piece of memory they might gain or sync with. MC has it better because the system dampens her emotions every time she returns to Reality. It's a mental health safety measure, but that's also why it takes MC is "slower" in developing feelings.

Went off on a tangent there but I hope that makes it a little less confusing. I personally see them each counterpart as their own real person but their experiences are "uploaded" to database in the System God World. The Reality counterparts are just one of many receiving this shared experience. They only seem like the "main body" or "real" LI because they're the ones who live in MC's world, and are the ones she will end up with if she is ever released from the System.

Hello~ I just started btw. Still confused about the back to reality LI, are they the “real” LI or the counterpart of the worlds that mc went to or both and held memories of their other lives?
