I probably would have disappointed you with my answer because I don't know what device you're using so it's hard to troubleshoot. So I wanted to take this opportunity to do a bit of summarising.

I've noticed that many people find it daunting and an immense hurdle to download Chinese mobile games mainly because they don't actually know what specifically is setting preventing them from getting in, so I'm going to list and give short explanation. There is unlikely going to be a guide that tells you what to do from start to finish for your specific game, so you're going to have to break it down into sections and find separate guides for each.

I hope this'll be generic yet holistic enough to cover most issues and provide enough information for people to self-help and self-troubleshoot. I do want to warn that if your setback is rejection of verification on a platform, you're gonna have to read that error message or rejection message carefully to work out what's wrong. They're usually pretty clear on what you need to do next.

Factors involved in playing a CN mobile game

I see many people getting confusing (2) & (3) and not quite understanding how 1 affects the entire process.

1. System type (iOS/iPadOS or AndroidOS)

This seems very basic but a very important point because this helps you narrow down what your options in (2) & (3) are.

iOS/iPadOS means the app you download will be released by its developer company on the App Store. In other words, you must have a Chinese Apple ID. Usually this involved creating an account on desktop so you can skip adding bank or card details. You can also usually get away with using a dummy number. The one thing you need is ID verification which I will cover in (2).

AndroidOS means you're most likely on a phone that has Google Play. China has banned anything Google-related. This means you will need to download the app APK from the website or a gaming platform supported by the game. This is usually announced on the official website. For BtW, it's native Android app, TapTap and Mumu Emulator.

Another thing to look at is their social media. If they have Bilibili, there's a chance BiliBili will have their own APK for you to download as well. Here's the BtW one I found but it's for android only. That also means you need to have linked your android phone number with BiliGames. We'll come back to the importance of the social media in a bit later.

2. Identity verification (platform; preventing bots)

iOS/iPadOS: Your game platform is the Apple Device, therefore your ID verification must be done for your Apple Device account, a.k.a Apple ID. There are third party services out there who are willing to help verify an Apple ID for you with a CN ID number for a small fee. You only need to do it once.

AndroidOS: Depending on what platform you play on, you'll need to register for a game platform account and verify that with an ID. For example, you may need to create a TapTap/9Games/Netease Games/Bilibili/Dashen account. If it's a native Android APK released by the devs, ID verification in (2) may overlap with (3). Most platforms are actually foreigner-friendly now and will accept foreign IDs such as passports or driver's licenses. You'll have to search up the guide specific to the platform you want to use.

It's worth noting here that the registration methods and top-up of a game may affect what platform you decide to go with.

3. Identity verification (game-specific; age & spending)

This is where the social media accounts a game has may affect how you register for a game. Every game will require you to confirm your age by verifying again your ID. You can also kind of consider this the ID verification for iOS/iPadOS players.

iOS/iPadOS: Each dev company will have different login methods which will require another round of ID verification, this time to confirm age. If you don't and the game is rated 16+, you will be barred from entering. For 12+ games, I believe they limit your gaming time to 2hrs a day and cap spending.

I can't list everything but here's the major ones I know.

Netease will give you an option to register with a phone number or create and @163.com email address. They also have a social media platform called 大神 where you can create an account with your foreign number and verify your ID and age with a passport. I would recommend this over creating a mailbox because that's a pain. You have to then link it to a CN phone number and actually use a CN ID.

Tencent will allow you to login with WeChat (Weixin) which is their social media platform. You can also verify your ID and age with a foreign ID.

Mihoyo will require you to create a Hoyo account. I didn't have to do any further ID verification so I assume they accepted the Apple ID one.

Papergames seems to only accept CN numbers on iOS. This was for when I tried to get back into 恋与制作人 (LYZZR; Love & Producer). It was easier creating an android account on emulator.

Other smaller dev studios like Anypercent (米修斯之印; Memoirs in Metheus) seem to be okay with accepting Apple ID. You'll see in [Figure3.0] highlighted in green is a line saying ID verified, but the one above says not linked to a phone number. This is kinda dangerous coz they're reliant on your Apple ID to recover your account but if you're okay with that then no need to bind to a number.

AndroidOS: Much simpler because whatever game platform you decided to go with will pass on your ID verification information to the game. That said, your account data is bound to that one platform only. Meaning if you lose your TapTap account and then want to play on MuMu, you'll have to start a new account. No migration is supported. Think of it them as being separate servers within CN.

Another thing to note is that unlike EN and JP games, migration between iOS/iPadOS and AndroidOS is usually not supported for CN unless they're like Tencent who recently implemented it for my idle farming game 桃源深处有人家 for people bound with their WeChat accounts. But that's an exception the the rule.

4. Top-up

Probably the topic most care about once they're in the game lol

iOS/iPadOS: Buy CN App Store gift cards to top-up.

AndroidOS: Depends on how you registered your game account. WeChat allows you to use your wallet which you can link to AliPay or have someone top-up for you. They've recently done some stuff and screwed paying by foreign credit cards so red-pocket top-up by a third-party service is your way to go. Or for platforms like 9Game and possibly QQ, you'll need to get a third-party service to log into your game platform account and top-up for you, so remember to create a password you don't use anywhere else!

Here are some answers for Android (by Lily) and iOS (by Ili) for Tencent's Light and Night. Although it's not Beyond the World, it's an example and you can apply the same process to any other Tencent game you may want to try later on.

Having played and topped up on Android (for LYZZR) and on iOS for several other games, I prefer iOS since all I have to do is verify my Apple ID and then find a store that sells CN App Store gift cards for a decent price. I'll tell you, it's a lot cheaper than the commission other stores take for topping up a game platform account.

Anyways, while it might not have answered your question directly, I do hope it gives you some direction if you still need help logging into BtW. I also hope this can serve as a knowledge article that will help people decide if they will be able to play the game they want to and top up in it, coz I know how much it sucks when you get in but can't top-up to get that one card you want (stares at Netease's Yujian back in 2019).

Hello, I really enjoyed your tweets about BTW and so I decided to download the game. But I encountered several setbacks from WeChat verification to failed at registered my id/phone number. I forgot where I saw the info, but apparently you can login using bilibili account. So, perhaps do you have any tips so I can play the game, it took me some time to download the content and I feel reluctant to uninstall it?
